It's an SLR, which I HAD to have- because you have to be able click quick with a toddler. I'm not sure what SLR stands for, I could google it, buuuut- it's simply no delay between shots. I can even hold the button down in sports mode. I got it for my bday & haven't even had time to read the book yet. I just keep it on Auto & with Adobe photoshop, I clean em up. I can't afford to do Portrait Innovations every month like I did Sadie, so I am also in the market for a used light. I mostly use natural light from outside & they are guaranteed great! See, on that pic w/ Everett I just posted, I simply "burned" out the background *which was crap on my kitchen counter* with photoshop. You can do it all with around $800 minus the light, but including Photoshop. Go for it,,, here's a coupla sites I think you'll like:
http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Canon-Rebel-XTi-vs-Nikon-D80-vs-Sony-Alpha-A100-Head-to-Head-to-Head-Digital-Camera-Review-.htm

and my fave:
http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/David, Tiff, Sadie, & Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05280044622993119876noreply@blogger.com
